Flunil is prescribed for depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (persistent unwanted thoughts and compulsive behaviors), certain eating disorders, and panic attacks (sudden episodes of intense fear and anxiety about these episodes). It is also used to alleviate symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder, such as mood fluctuations, irritability, bloating, and breast sensitivity. Flunil belongs to a category of medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which function by increasing serotonin levels, a natural chemical in the brain that supports mental stability.

Flunil can be taken with or without food and is typically administered once daily in the morning or twice a day, in the morning and at noon. Carefully adhere to the instructions on your prescription label, and consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions regarding the medication. Take Flunil exactly as prescribed, without altering the dosage or frequency without your doctor's approval.

Your doctor may initiate treatment with a low dosage of Flunil and gradually adjust it upward as needed. It can take 4 to 5 weeks or longer to observe the full effects of Flunil. Continue taking Flunil even if you start feeling better, and do not discontinue its use without discussing it with your doctor first. Halting Flunil abruptly may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as mood changes, irritability, agitation, dizziness, numbness or tingling in extremities, anxiety, confusion, headaches, fatigue, and trouble with sleep. It is likely that your doctor will taper your dosage gradually.

Potential side effects include nervousness, nausea, dry mouth, sore throat, drowsiness, weakness, uncontrollable shaking of a body part, loss of appetite, weight loss, alterations in sexual desire or function, and excessive sweating.

Before taking any medication for pain, arthritis, fever, or inflammation, consult your doctor. This encompasses drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, indomethacin, piroxicam, nabumetone, etodolac, and others. Combining any of these medications with Flunil may increase the risk of easy bruising or bleeding.
If an overdose is suspected, seek immediate assistance from your local poison control center or emergency department.
